Thanks for the blog bas, I always hear about people transferring out, but it's great to actually find out how it's done. I would love to be able to ask you some specific questions if you have a chance. If not though, thanks for all the information.
Robert, you are welcome. Feel free to ask me anything, I would be more than happy to help. Please post it as a comment, or if you feel that they are too personal-you can private message me.
I'd prefer to private message you, but I'm not really sure how. I tried clicking on the 'NB' but it doesn't take me anywhere. Perhaps you could enlighten me on how to do it. If not though, no worries, I could just post as a comment.
hey NB: I had a comment: I contacted Neocom and they said that they hardly look at your UG and MCAT. the reason I called them was b/c I don't have a great UG GPA and didn't do MCAT cause my carribean school didn't require it. So when I called them I told that I didn't have MCats and not so good UG GPA, and they told me that I didn't have anything to worry about and still apply, since they had applicants with the same stories. But all the students that got in, pretty much said the same thing u said: they look at both UG GPA, MCATS and MED GPA. So I don't know what to belive, is it even worth applying then? My MEd GPA is stellar, and I plan to kick ass on Steps next year.....any advice NB? Thanks man.
Windsor, all of the people I know that transferred did well in all the areas (UG/MCAT/Med School/USMLE). If I were you, I would still apply-what do you have to lose other than $100 for the application. Good luck!
Where did you get your letters of recommendation from? Professors in your med school or did you go back to the same people who wrote your letters to get into med school initially?
I asked med school preceptors to write my LORs. I had two practicing md's write a letter on my behalf. Any med school prof from the island would be just as good.
You will need to get your undergraduate committee letter which will include excerpts from your ug lors.
I was searching on google for a sort of how-to manual to have a starting point for transferring. I am currently a Ross student. I finished semester 5, and I am presently studying for step 1.
Thank you for your detailed explanations. They are definitely helpful.
As a Canadian going to a foreign medical school, I would be interested in transferring either to a US or Canadian Medical school. Do you have any additional suggestions for someone in my position?
Thank you, and I hope your residency is going well : )
Hi, I've recently been accepted to Ross University. I had a good undergraduate gpa, but a 25 on my mcats. I want to transfer after my first year. Has this been done before? Can anyone offer any advice?
Hi, I am an M3 at the American University of the Caribbean SOM and I am applying to transfer to NEOMED (formerly NEOCOM). Any advice for that program specifically? It's the only one that takes foreign medical students at the time so the stakes are pretty high. Also, thank you for this blog, very helpful!
Thanks for taking the time out to do all of this! Very detailed.
